Preview: 2026 Washington Huskies Softball Season

As the 2026 NCAA softball season approaches, expectations are high in Seattle for the Washington Huskies. Coming off a strong 2025 campaign that included a 35-19 record and an NCAA Tournament appearance, the Dawgs enter the new season poised to build on their program’s winning tradition under veteran head coach Heather Tarr

A National Power with a New Conference Identity

Washington begins its second season in the Big Ten — a shift from its longtime home in the Pac-12 — and fans are eager to see how the Dawgs stack up in a new conference landscape. The 2026 schedule features 51 games, including challenging non-conference tournaments early and pivotal Big Ten series that could define the season.

The season kicks off at the UTSA Invitational on February 6, where UW will face Nebraska, host UTSA, and defending national champion Texas — a bold opening slate that should immediately test Washington’s mettle.

Key Returning Stars and Leadership

Washington returns a core of productive players who were instrumental in the 2025 run:

  • Alexis DeBoer — A sophomore infielder with power and consistency, she posted strong offensive numbers last season and projects as a key bat near the top of the lineup.

  • Jadyn Glab — The junior catcher brings experience behind the plate and in the clutch.

  • Ava Carroll and Sophi Mazzola — Versatile threats in the outfield and infield, giving the Dawgs depth and speed.

  • Giselle Alvarez — Another reliable bat in the infield lineup.

On the mound, Sophia Ramuno enters her senior year as an anchor of the pitching staff, flanked by Morgan Reimer, who has already shown strikeout prowess, and seasoned arms capable of keeping Washington competitive in tight games.

Losses & Depth Opportunities

While Washington returns many impact players, it will be without some key 2025 contributors, including senior leaders whose experience helped guide the team through conference play and the postseason.

That said, the Huskies’ roster depth and occasional breakout performances — hallmarks of the program — could ease the transition and provide invaluable innings down the stretch.

Coaching Continuity & Culture

Head coach Heather Tarr — the winningest coach in Washington softball history — continues to lead a culture rooted in excellence and postseason expectation. With her contract secured through 2029 and years of College World Series experience, Tarr’s leadership remains a cornerstone of the program’s identity.

What to Watch This Season

  • Big Ten Playoffs Positioning: With the Huskies fully acclimated to Big Ten competition, every conference series — especially matchups against Michigan, Northwestern, and Ohio State — could influence postseason seeding.

  • Early Tournament Performance: The non-conference slate, including the Mary Nutter Classic and West Coast road trips, will be crucial for national ranking and confidence building.

  • Pitching Depth: How Washington manages its pitching rotation over a long and travel-heavy schedule will be central to their success.

Bottom Line

For Husky fans, 2026 promises a compelling mix of established talent, competitive scheduling, and the pursuit of another deep postseason run. With a strong core returning and a coach deeply familiar with championship stages, Washington softball is ready to make noise again — this time in the Big Ten and beyond.

Ricky’s Prediction: The Huskies WILL make the NCAA Regionals in 2026.
