Under the leadership of Head Coach Bruce Anderson, now in his fifth season at the helm, the Cardinals aim to build on last year’s growth and challenge for a top-tier OAC finish. 2025 Season Snapshot

The 2025 season showcased Otterbein’s ability to compete against strong OAC opponents and compete with nationally ranked teams. In early April, the Cardinals faced No. 25 Baldwin Wallace, a perennial conference and national contender, and hit three home runs across the doubleheader despite falling 2-1 and 8-3.

Throughout the season, Otterbein played a challenging schedule that included splits and tight contests against teams like Capital University and Wittenberg University, showing consistency in both offense and pitching.

By mid-season, Otterbein’s overall record hovered around 13-16 overall and 4-9 in OAC play, demonstrating growth against tough conference competition. During a doubleheader at Ohio Northern, the offense showed firepower, scoring 12 runs and producing long extra-inning drama in one game — including a clutch home run by Graduate student Caroline Heller and multi-hit days across the lineup.

Leaders Returning for 2026

Otterbein brings back several impactful players who are set to lead the Cardinals this season:

Caroline Heller (Grad Student) — A cornerstone of the offense, Heller enters the 2026 season with career totals including 145 hits, 37 doubles, and 84 RBIs, ranking among the top offensive performers in Otterbein history. She also delivered a dramatic 5-for-5 game with a home run during the 2025 campaign.

Isa Lewis (Senior) — A seasoned hitter and baserunner, Lewis surpassed 100 career hits during the 2025 season and provides leadership and speed in the lineup with 30 steals.

Emma Calkins (Junior) — A power threat in the heart of the order, Calkins had multiple home runs in 2025, including a long ball against Baldwin Wallace, and will be a key contributor for the Cardinals.

Maggie McVicker (Sophomore) — Another emerging slugger, McVicker produced multiple home runs and runs batted in, often driving runs in big situations.

Kennedi Endsley (Sophomore) — Winner of the OAC Rookie of the Year award in 2024, Endsley brings speed and baserunning prowess, with 70+ hits and 29+ steals in her career through 2025.

Freshman Pitchers and Rotation Depth — Otterbein returns arms like Evie Lehman, Addison Yoder, and others who combined for significant innings and strikeout totals in 2025, providing experience and room to grow in the circle.

Coaching Stability and Culture

Head Coach Bruce Anderson has guided the program for multiple seasons, compiling a record around 66-68-1 by late 2025. Under his leadership, the Cardinals emphasize situational hitting, disciplined defense, and aggressive baserunning — staples that keep them competitive against elite OAC foes.

Anderson’s coaching staff has fostered a culture built on development and resilience, helping the Cardinals win pivotal games and compete with bigger schools in one of the toughest Division III softball conferences.

What to Expect in 2026

Heading into the 2026 season, Otterbein looks to refine the lessons learned in 2025 and compete for one of the top spots in the OAC. Here’s what fans and opponents should watch:

Offensive Power and Depth — With Heller, Lewis, Calkins, and McVicker returning, Otterbein’s lineup has proven homer power and clutch hitting, capable of breaking open games with long balls and timely RBIs.

Speed and Baserunning — Endsley and Lewis can change the game with their legs, pressuring defenses and setting the tempo on offense.

Pitching Development — Returning pitchers like Lehman and Yoder will battle for key innings, but continued growth in control and strikeouts will be vital to Otterbein’s success in tight conference games.

Conference Competitiveness — The OAC is loaded with strong programs — including nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace — and Otterbein’s performance in head-to-head matchups will set the tone for their postseason hopes.

With a balanced mix of veteran leadership, offensive threat, and energetic underclassmen, the Cardinals are positioned to build a 2026 season filled with excitement, growth, and plenty of competitive softball. For Otterbein fans, the upcoming season is poised to be one worth watching.
