Cougars Roar on Opening Night: Kachouroff Powers Merritt Island Christian to 11–1 Victory
Opening Night belonged to the Cougars.
Under the leadership of Head Coach Micah Rockwell, Merritt Island Christian High School wasted no time announcing that the 2026 season will be played on their terms. In dominant fashion, the Cougars rolled past the Satellite High School Varsity Scorpions 11–1 on Tuesday at Merritt Island Lassie League Softball.
From the very first swing of the season, the tone was set.
Sophia Kachouroff Ignites the Fire
If there was any question about who would deliver the first big moment of 2026, Sophia Kachouroff answered it emphatically.
In the bottom of the first inning, she launched a towering home run to center field, driving in two runs and electrifying the dugout and crowd. It was more than just a home run — it was a statement.
And she wasn’t finished.
Kachouroff would go on to drive in four runs on four hits, adding a clutch two-run single in the sixth inning to cap off a monster Opening Night performance. When the Cougars needed momentum, she delivered.
Fast Start, Relentless Pressure
The Cougars jumped ahead early and never looked back.
After Kachouroff’s blast, Shea followed with an RBI single to stretch the lead. By the third inning, a productive groundout from Sophia Robison extended the advantage to 4–1, keeping the pressure squarely on the Scorpions.
Merritt Island Christian didn’t just score — they attacked. They forced defensive adjustments, put balls in play consistently, and piled up 12 total hits in the win.
With Senior Parker Morrison holding down the infield with her leadership, the defense rose to the occasion all the way until the end making play after play in big 2 out moments vs Satellite.
Robinson and Shea each recorded multi-hit games, contributing to an offense that looked balanced, disciplined, and explosive.

While the bats were loud, the pitching was steady.
Sophia Robinson earned the win with a composed six-inning performance, allowing just one run on five hits while walking two. She worked efficiently, trusted her defense, and kept Satellite from building any sustained momentum.
The Cougars’ defense backed her up with clean play behind the ball — something Coach Rockwell has emphasized throughout the offseason.
Complete Team Performance
Satellite showed flashes behind Sousa, who went 2-for-2 and swiped two bases, but the Cougars’ consistency proved too much.
